How to Level an Old Wood Floor

This project was about leveling a floor in an 1880s Farmhouse that had sagged and sunk on one side till it was about 3 inches lower. After reinforcing the floor joists in the basement, I set about installing 2×4 ribs to fit the sag of the floor. Each rib was scrolled and hand-cut making sure the top was level from the highest end of the room. Then 1×12 heart-of-pine tongue and groove barnboards were installed with authentic cut nails. The finished floor was stained to look weathered and sealed with 2 top coats of polyurethane.
